Moving

I'm in the process of moving and I don't have cable or internet at home for at least another 10 days, so updates will be sporadic. I would have a sweet post dedicated to the douche that is Barry Melrose, but that'll have to wait. In the meantime, here is a cool game. How many can you get without help?

Also, I hope this guy destroys the Braves' souls tonight:

Faceplant

Well, that was awkward.

There was probably only one thing the Caps did that was praiseworthy last night: Trying to shave Crosby's terrible stache with that high stick by Brooks Laich. Now that the only team that I would root for from the East besides the obvious has been ignominiously eliminated, I only care about seeing Pat Kane and the Blackhawks win.

Things of Death

I think everyone has experienced the Blue Screen of Death on a PC. When it happened to my old laptop in '06 I said screw PC and went Mac. I'll sacrifice the performance and extra money for a cleaner operating system and better aesthetics. So far no complaints, except for the Apple Mighty Mouse. I hate that thing. It is a battery killer, it gets dirty fast to the point that it is unusable, and Apple decided to make it impossible to take apart to clean.

Anyways, onto gaming systems. XBOX 360 has what is dubbed the Red Ring Of Death (RROD). Three flashing red lights appear to indicate a hardware failure. Apparently lots of cases of this arose a bit ago, and Microsoft did the right thing and extended the warranty to 3 years. Upon hearing about it, I was glad that I had a Playstation 3 as I had not heard of any such problems for it. Plus Blu-ray beat HD-DVD, and the PS3 has MLB The Show, much to Secret Asian Man's dismay.

Fast forward to this past weekend. It was late Saturday night, and having just watched SNL and Mother Lover, I was still awake. I decided to put on a horribly awesome movie, The Fast and the Furious. About 10 minutes in, my DVD player, the PS3, shut off. When I tried to turn it on, the light went green (normal), then to yellow, then the unit beeped 3 times and the light flashed red. I thought nothing of it and went to sleep.

Next day, I tried turning it on again and had no luck. I looked online, and I discovered the Yellow Light of Death. YLOD. Dagger. The YLOD occurs because of some internal hardware failure, usually from overheating. It would cost me $150 to send to Sony for repair since the warranty had expired... or, I could attempt to fix it myself. I found some videos that showed how to reflow the CPU and GPU, got a heat gun, and FIXED IT. It was rewarding, and of course cost effective.

So if anyone experiences a similar problem, just do it yourself. It's not exactly the same as blowing into the cartridges of Nintendo games, but it wasn't that hard. Just don't blame The Fast and the Furious, no matter how awesomely bad the acting was in that movie. I still can't decide who is worse at his job, Paul Walker or Keanu Reeves.

Can't Spell Toronto Without TO

I have mixed emotions about the city of Toronto. I was born there so I like it. Toronto has the Leafs so I dislike it, but it has the Blue Jays and is an overall pretty cool city - so I like it. But Toronto will eventually become the home of the Buffalo Bills... terrible.

It's a pretty valid prediction and everyone seems to agree that the Bills will move out of Buffalo to Toronto. Given the fact that the NFL is business first and sport second, it makes sense, despite promises made by Jim Kelly and co. that they will do whatever it takes to keep the Bills in good old Orchard Park. I like Jim Kelly, he's a nice guy who gave us king size candy bars on Halloween. But Jim Kelly cannot change Buffalo's economy. Side note: A recent tiresome cliche for color commentators working a game involving Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Cleveland, or Detroit is to say something similar to "... these tough blue collar fans." It's so true!

Anyway, back to Buffaronto. The potential move debate might pick up steam this season, and may even be fueled by the addition of that guy Mr. Owens 2 months ago.
When I heard about it that fateful night I was skiing in the blue ridge mountains, and i said "shit." When I think about it today, I say "shit." Sure he'll be productive but he's annoying... as shit. And its hard to root for that. He will love Toronto and obviously dislike Buffalo. Let's hope he gets his opinion out on everything so the media blitz can spend countless hours analyzing it while nobody else cares. Then the Bills will quietly pack up and move to Toronto while the TO distraction is in full bloom. And I will say "shit."

Then again, at least they aren't trying to sign Favre who is about to reunretire. Or is it unreretire.

Thurman Merman

The Bills drafted Thurman Merman. I love it.

Hockey?

Unsurprisingly, today's topic is hockey. I was reluctant to talk about it because the Sabres ingloriously shit the bed this season, and I don't feel like using this space to complain about it (eff Scott Gomez!).

Anyways, I went to game 5 of the Caps vs. Rangers playoff series, and it was pretty awesome. Playoff hockey is superb and I don't have a problem rooting for the Caps with Buffalo out of the picture, especially against the Rangers. After the game I came away with one thought and I'll make it a guarantee - Ovechkin will win his back to back MVP award. If I just jinxed it, Robby will break my knees.

Although, this will always be fun:

It'll be interesting to see how DC reacts if the Caps pull off this comeback on Tuesday. When you have the Natinals, Wizards, and Skins offseason, there will be no doubt that DC is turning into a hockey town.

Go Sabres!
